Eating in Berlin: Chan

What: Chan
Where: Paul-Linke-Ufer

There are a lot of Thai-Places in Berlin. But something about Chan is a little different. You enter the restaurant in Kreuzberg through a tiny garden with lots of bamboo. Even in cold winter times, it makes you feel quite tropical. The asian-journey continues once you cross the buddhas framing the entrance.

Inside you won't find the typical asian decor though. It's kept in a puristic and rustic style. You will find colorful modern paintings on the wall and an open kitchen, so you can actually stalk the chefs while preparing your drinks and food. The vibes are really relaxed and casual, but the service is still on point and the waiters will make sure you feel comfortable and are pleased to assist you at all times.

We started of with 2 starters, which were recommended by the lovely waiter. The vegetarian springrolls and Papaya-salad were amazing and decorated in the most beautiful way. Not only are all recipes traditional asian ones of course, but at Chan the focus point is definitely their high quality of fresh veggies imported from Bankok, as well as organic milk and eggs from free-range chicken. Everything will be cooked on the spot for you and you wont find one readymade meal ever. They also have excellent smoothies. I had a mango one and Till went for strawberry. I watched them mix the fresh fruit right in front of our eyes.

For the main my boyfriend went for the "Red Thai curry with rice and beef" and I chose the "Thai water spinach with rice". I never had Thai spinach before and I was really pleased with it. It was just as spicy, as we liked it and tasted super fresh and sort of crisp together with the sauce and rice. Till was also super happy with his choice and especially praised the coconut in the curry sauce.

Afterwards we were so stuffed, that we couldn't even fit any more dessert in. But as always I can never say no to a coffee. So we received 2 brilliantly foamed cappuccinos, that rounded of the evening at Chan perfectly.

I would totally recommend to check this cozy place out, if you feel like experiencing friendly and authentic Thai cuisine for a night.

Namaste,
Hannah
